Patient Ends Up In Comma After Surgeon Allegedly Leaves Hospital Prematurely And Against Hospital Policy.

Although we expect all of our medical professionals to adhere to the policies put in place for patient safety, the reality is that a step or two may be skipped, which can end up being disastrous for the patient. Due to the severity of injury inherent in all types of medical malpractice cases, it is crucial for victims to not wait before taking action. Time could be a factor in filing a personal injury lawsuit. Our Boston, Massachusetts law firm has a team of expert medical malpractice attorneys who have been recognized nationally for their decades of experience and have recovered millions of dollars in damages for our clients.

A medical malpractice trial of heart surgeon Pervaiz Chaudhry, in Fresno County, California Superior Court, began Thursday with the opening statement by the attorney for a patient left in a vegetative state after open-heart surgery. The patient, Silvino Perez, 76 years-old, kept bleeding after the surgery and lost so much blood that his brain was starved of oxygen and now he’s permanently comatose. Dr. Chaudhry allegedly left the operating room after the surgery before the patient had been sewn up by a physician’s assistant and before he was stable, in violation of Community Regional Medical Center policy, and also violating policy by not having a backup cardiac surgeon when he left the hospital grounds. When Mr. Perez turned blue from lack of oxygen due to the bleeding, Dr. Chaudhry was a half-hour away at a restaurant in north Fresno for a business meeting. By the time he returned to the hospital, it allegedly was too late for anything to be done.
