A woman from Southport, Connecticut has been awarded $9.3 million in personal injury damages. The verdict came after a jury found that her doctor was liable for medical malpractice that caused her substantial long-term injuries.
Barbara G. Lathan, 72, alleged in her lawsuit that she will be wheelchair-bound for the rest of her life and suffers from additional medical issues. This is allegedly all because her doctor gave her an overdose of Lovenox in October 2007. Lathan was prescribed the Lovenox, a blood anticoagulant, to treat a urninary tract infection, but she soon developed internal bleeding as a result of the improper prescription. As a result of the medication mistake, Lathan was forced to undergo numerous surgeries and blood transfusions.
One of the defendants in the case was Lathan’s former treating hospital, Bridgeport Hospital, located in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
